About Grandma House: Nourishing Our Community

Our Mission

At Grandma’s House, we believe no one in our community should go hungry. Rooted in compassion and lived experience, we provide nutritious meals and essential support to families facing food insecurity. Our mission goes beyond feeding—we aim to restore dignity, fight income inequality, and create lasting change through programs that nourish both body and spirit.

Food Insecurity

Food insecurity is a crisis in Los Angeles County, affecting over 2 million residents—more than any other county in the nation. A staggering 56% of families with young children don’t have consistent access to nutritious food. While Latino and African American communities are disproportionately impacted due to systemic inequities, no community is untouched. Hunger here is not about scarcity—it’s about injustice, rising costs, and broken systems.

Food Insecurity Impact

In Los Angeles County, the soaring cost of housing, transportation, and basic necessities is pushing more families into food and nutrition insecurity—now affecting over 25% of the population. Alarming spikes are emerging among Asian & black communities, where hunger and malnutrition are growing at disproportionate rates. Food insecurity isn’t just about empty cupboards—it’s directly linked to chronic illnesses like diabetes, poor mental health, and long-term economic instability. Addressing hunger is not optional—it’s a matter of urgent public health and racial equity.
