Established in 2020, Grandma’s House has been a beacon of hope in the fight against hunger and food insecurity across Los Angeles County. What started as a humble mobile food pantry serving a handful of families has blossomed into a lifeline for thousands. Today, we proudly provide healthy hot meals, nutritious groceries, fresh water, clothing, and essential necessities to countless families and homeless individuals throughout the county. Join us in our mission to ensure no one goes hungry.
As the pandemic subsided and CalFresh benefits returned to normal, food inflation has relentlessly risen, outpacing wages and additional benefits. In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, 42% of low-income residents in Los Angeles County faced food insecurity. Thanks to stimulus payments and enhanced benefits, this number dropped to 37% by 2022. However, with benefits reverting to pre-pandemic levels and food costs soaring, the number of food-insecure individuals and families has surged once again. This year, Grandma’s House has been a lifeline, distributing over 250,000 pounds of food through our drive-thru pantry, mobile pantry, and meal delivery services, providing crucial support to homeless and low-income families. Join us in our mission to combat hunger and ensure no one in our community goes without.
As of July 2023, a staggering 44% of low-income residents in Los Angeles County—over 1 million individuals—are grappling with food insecurity. At Grandma’s House, we are unwavering in our commitment to eradicating food insecurity and poverty within our community. By partnering with a diverse array of entities and local organizations, we provide not only food and clothing but also education and vital resources to those in need. Together, we can make a profound difference and ensure that no one in our community goes hungry. Join us in this crucial mission.
“Skid Row harbors one of the largest populations of homelessness, hunger, and food insecurity in the nation.”
