Ending Hunger, One Meal at a Time
We believe that no one should go hungry in our Low-income communities
We believe that no one should go hungry in our Low-income communities
Grandma's House was established in 2020 to combat hunger and food insecurity across Los Angeles County. What began as a modest mobile food pantry serving a few families has expanded to provide thousands of families and homeless individuals with healthy hot meals, nutritious groceries, fresh water, clothing, and other fundamental necessities throughout the county.
Over the years, as the pandemic subsided and CalFresh benefits returned to normal, food inflation has continued to rise without an increase in wages or additional benefits. During the early pandemic in 2020, 42% of low-income residents in Los Angeles County were food insecure. After the introduction of stimulus payments and benefits, this number dropped to 37% by 2022. However, with benefits reverting to regular levels and the cost of food increasing, the number of food-insecure individuals and families has surged. This year, Grandma's House has been fortunate to assist homeless and low-income families by distributing over 24,000 pounds of food through our drive-thru pantry, mobile pantry, and meal delivery services.
As of July 2023, 44% of low-income residents in Los Angeles County are experiencing food insecurity, affecting over 1 million individuals. At Grandma's House, we dedicate ourselves to eradicating food insecurity and poverty within our community. Collaborating with various entities and local organizations, we offer food, clothing, education, and additional resources to those in need.
